My life philosophy is based on my belief in Nichiren Buddhism which teaches that all people posses the potential for greatness, this is the essence of who we are. That we create our own circumstances and environment through our words, thoughts and actions and that all humanity and nature are interconnected, nothing can live in isolation.
It has helped me understand and recognize the greatness in myself
and to see it in others. This spiritual foundation inspires me to
create art that focuses on the beauty of life and the power of the
human spirit. My artistic inspiration comes from a variety of other
places as well. My interactions with people, women I have met in
my travels, events in the media and nature. I also have a great love
for Afro-Caribbean, Mexican Art and the French artist Gauguin.
My paintings are colorful Figurative and Abstract works created by combining acrylics, pastels, and other mixed media.
My figurative work is mostly of women caught in a moment of thought or reflection. It is about the overall energy and inherent power that all women posses. My abstracts are about the continuous movement of life itself and our emotional response to the physical world, the natural elements and the universe as a whole.
I enjoy using an abundance of color in my work because for me, color is synonymous with emotion. Some of my pieces are about using colors to create a mood to insight a feeling. With others I am more interested in taking something recognizable and using a combination of mediums to blur the line between what is painted or photographed so the viewer sees something ordinary in a different way.
My goal as an artist is to touch the hearts of all who see my work. For that one moment while viewing my art that you can "feel something" it is about the human response to my work... that's what is important to me.
